Poetry is a very important genre of English Literature. The course in semester II is designed in such a manner that the students will have to learn the different forms of poetry before they study and make an analysis of poems. In order to understand, appreciate, analyze, interpret and criticize a poem, students need to learn the various aspects of poetry such as Rhyme, Rhythm, Diction, Imagery, Symbolism, Tone, Mood, Attitude and the figures of speech. During the course, students will be introduced to all these important aspects of the study of poetry. Besides, students will also be encouraged to develop qualities such as intellectual capability, emotional liveliness and moral honesty that are essential to judge a poem. Further, the course aims at laying a strong foundation to learn and understand all the finer aspects of poetry so that the future study of poetry becomes easy, providing better understanding and offering true pleasure.
