Semester 1 of BSc Physical Sciences (Statistics) 2026-29 Batch

Basic statistics and Probability  is a summary statistic that quantitatively describes or summarizes features from a collection of information, while descriptive statistics is the process of using and analyzing those statistics. Probability theory is a field of mathematics and statistics that is concerned with finding the probabilities associated with random events.

This course on Differential Equations is tailored for undergraduate students to develop a comprehensive understanding of differential equations and their solutions, essential for advanced studies in their respective fields. The curriculum covers topics such as first-order and higher-order differential equations, their applications, and partial differential equations. The focus is on both mastering solution techniques and grasping the theoretical principles underlying these methods. Applications of differential equations extend to various fields, including Geometry, Mechanics, Physics, and Social Sciences like Economics and Psychology, illustrating their interdisciplinary relevance.

Course summary

The course is aimed to introduce concepts of programming and software code organization. It covers a basic introduction to the principles of programming in C, including algorithms and logic. Students engage in hands-on programming tasks in C programming language as they write and test their own code using the approaches real programmers use in the field. The course is organized as a series of lectures and practical exercises using C programming languages.
