Business Economics is the study of how economic principles are applied to business decision-making for the efficient use of scarce resources. This course introduces the nature, scope, and importance of business economics and its relationship with accounting, finance, marketing, and managerial economics while explaining both microeconomic and macroeconomic perspectives. It covers fundamental economic concepts such as scarcity, choice, opportunity cost, marginal analysis, and the equi-marginal principle. Students learn demand and supply analysis, including determinants, elasticity, and demand forecasting techniques, as well as production functions, cost concepts, and break-even analysis for managerial decision-making. The course also examines different market structures, pricing strategies, and the behavior of firms under perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, and oligopoly. Finally, it explores the macroeconomic environment by discussing inflation, national income, economic growth, trade, government policies, and the impact of Liberalization, Privatization, and Globalization (LPG) on Indian businesses, enabling students to understand how economic conditions influence business performance and strategy.
